UPDATE WEDS 18th Sept:
Geoff is coming along amazingly, very bright boy. Learning loads of new stuff, simple stuff like sit, his calming training is coming on amazingly and although he still jumps up and tries to grab stuff, he has very quickly learnt that if he doesn't do these things, he gets a treat :-) today he is out and about with Sam Nutt Poppy and Ivy, Sam, Dave Franks Lily and Milo playing the 'engage noses' game :-) he was absolutely fine sharing his space with the others looking for tiny treats. No food aggression with the other dogs at all. To be fair, he is learning more off our calm dogs, than he is off us... hats off to the Stooges :-)
Sunday 15th September
So this little man (Geoff) landed at the sanctuary last night ... 8 months old. A Golden Retriever, sadly a badly bred puppy from a back yard breeder. Rescued in an emergency byTracy Benjamin( Wonky Pets) who got him health checked and xrayed, prior to him coming to us. He will make an amazing companion, in time. He is struggling at the moment, and is very confused. He has issues, and sadly because of inexperienced ex owners, these issues have compounded. Today we got some help with calming techniques from the fab Vicki Main which worked brilliantly. He also had a mooch about with Lily (labrador) and Vicky Webber bought Talwyn (golden retriever)along. Next week he starts Calm classes at the sanctuary with Carolyn Boyd and Vicky (West Cornwall Dog Training). Geoff struggles with exercise, 15 minutes and he was shattered. So low energy this week.
Geoff will be up for adoption BUT if you are interested then you must fill out a pre assessment AND be able to come to the sanctuary (Chacewater) and take part in his classes prior to adoption, he will need to see you as a friend and mentor before we let him go. Geoff had bitten prior to coming to us. Although we feel he may have been pushed to that point. Geoff is good with other dogs, although he is nervous. He will come good, of that we have no doubt, he has just had the wrong start in life. No children sadly because of his bite history. Geoff is also entire, and physically and mentally he is not ready for castration. He will leave with a very strict neutering contract that his new family must pay for. We will update here regularly so you can see how this boy fares.
Please note: Home checks apply. In the event of adoption, an adoption contract and set adoption donation applies
