Dogs seeking foster homes

These dogs need foster homes

Some of them are already in the care of The Last Chance Hotel, either in emergency foster homes or emergency kennels. Some may still be in the Council pound. Full rescue back up will be provided.

If you foster a dog, you will pay for the food and need to be prepared to transport the dog to the vets when necessary. The rescue will pay for any vet's bills.
You will need to liaise with the rescue to organise 'meet & greets' for potential adopters. As the foster carer you will have the first option to adopt the dog if you wish to do so.

How to foster

1. If you see a dog you would like additional information for, please email us at: [email protected]
2. If you decide you would like to foster, then please complete a pre-assessment by following the link HERE >> and one of our volunteers will contact you to arrange a home check.
3. When you have passed the home check, we will then make arrangements for you to 'meet and greet' the dog if this is possible (for instance if the dog is with its current owner).
WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR FOSTERERS TO HELP US SAVE MORE DOGS AT RISK

Ideally you need to be a pet free home or have the means to separate the animals in the home (spare room etc)

Also we need people willing to take a dog, in some cases, sight unseen into your home. Some dogs come into care suddenly and need a home straightaway.

LCH covers the cost of vet care while in foster, and animals will need to see our wonderful vets in Penryn or Wadebridge, so travel to our vets is essential.

Fostering can be extremely rewarding.

Private Rehome Disclaimer Statement - please read if you are applying to adopt or foster an animal that has not been assessed by LCH (still with owner)

Pre-assessment questions
What to expect?
Some of the dogs that we have for foster are in the Dog Pound, so there are no opportunities for meet & greets, so we have very limited information about them and so rely on our fosterers to assess the dog. These dogs may have travelled from out of county, and will need to go straight into the care of a foster home, and will be required to see a vet within the first few days.

Poundies need to go to child free foster homes, unless they have a history of living with children. We will not compromise on this - 14 years and over only. The dog might be quite traumatised on arrival and could take some time to settle. Fosterers need to understand that the dog might have a background of abuse and neglect. Some of these dogs will take patience and time, others will settle in like they have always lived with you. We can't promise you that it will be easy, but it is very rewarding to take a broken dog and make them whole again. We do ask that you give the individual dog the time that it needs and don't jump to an instant assessment, as generally it could be some time before you see the dog's true nature shining through.

Kennel dogs: Other dogs may be in our kennels, or possibly in foster with one of the LCH team. These dogs may already have been partially assessed. Normally meet and greets with these dogs are possible to see if they will integrate with any other resident dogs in your family.

Full Rescue Back up
If you have a dog in foster then you can ask for advice and support from the LCH team. We can advise on training, health and feeding issues - as well as much more! Foster dogs are eligible for free training at 'Sit Happens' dog training classes. Last Chance Hotel pay for all vet's bills.

A fosterer needs to be committed, as we can't just remove the dog if requested - our kennel spaces are nearly always full - so we make sure that a fosterer is aware of this before they agree to take a dog.
