Rainbow BridgeJust this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. |
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Sam
A heartfelt tribute from Sam's mum:
Sam was rescued by the Last Chance Hotel, along with two other dogs back in 2015, Honey - a Golden Labrador, and Jack - a Spaniel cross. He was extremely shut down at the beginning, withdrawn, and didn't know or understand how to be a 'dog'.
My family and I originally fostered him in May 2015, but soon fell madly in love with him and adopted him soon after. As time went by, Sam grew in confidence, learning how to play, enjoy cuddles and human contact, and began to live his life to the full. Seeing him overcome the many hurdles was priceless. He was helped and supported by our family dog Harley, who became his mentor and taught him how to be a dog. Sadly, Harley passed away from cancer in 2016, however, Sam gained a new best friend in Crystal in the same year. Sam and Crystal were thick as thieves for nine years.
Sam was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia in 2016 and underwent an operation for this. In later life, Sam was diagnosed with arthritis in multiple joints, had pyoderma, and in 2024 was believed to have suffered a spinal stroke. Despite all of this, he never gave up; he was a fighter from the get-go, and determination was his middle name. My family and I thought we were going to lose him in March 2024, but Sam turned everything around and surprised everyone, the specialists, vets, and even us. Sam lived on for another year and enjoyed every single day to the full.
At the end of his life, we decided as a family to give him everything he loved in life, taking him to the beach in his trolley, to the moors, and giving him all the fish he could eat (he adored fish).
On 11th April 2025, we said goodbye to our beautiful Sam. He was at home, surrounded by those he loved and all of his home comforts.
Sam was my entire life, my world, my everything. He was my rock through life's challenges, giving so much support, love, and comfort. He was my soulmate. Sam and I did almost everything together; we were by one another's side through everything, and I feel I have lost a piece of myself.
We, as a family, are incredibly blessed for the time we had with our gorgeous boy Sam and are so grateful to you all at the Last Chance Hotel for rescuing him back in 2015 and giving us the opportunity to be his Mum and family.

CharlieThis is a personal tribute from Charlie's dad:
I was so lucky to adopt Charlie on 7th July, 2016. Time was unexpectedly short and he passed away last Saturday, a week short of three years. He was very wary of people, particularly men, initially, but gradually his confidence, and later his ebullience shone through. He vocalised like no other dog I’ve ever had, and always with a rapidly wagging tail, excitement and love. He so enjoyed his walks, his friends and above all being together in his home and garden. To experience such a beautiful chap learning to love and trust again has been very special for me as well. The innocence and honesty of animals can teach us so much – if only people listen. Thank you for your help. LT |
SaffySweet Saffy came into rescue in January 2017, very poorly, and needing mammary surgery. Her fosterers took her into their home and hearts, and gave her lots of love and cuddles. Sadly, this little mite wasn't strong enough, and she left for Rainbow Bridge to join Poppet and Annie, and all the others who have been loved, cared for, and are now so sorely missed. Sweet dreams Saffy, we didn't know you for long, but you touched our hearts.

PoppetPoppet came in to rescue in November. She had been thrown from a van. One of her back legs was damaged as she had difficulty walking. Xrays at the vets showed a deeper problem, she had bone cancer, and it had spread to her chest. She was just too fragile. A heart wrenching decision was made, and she was set free to run with the hounds at Rainbow Bridge. RIP Poppet, you knew love when it mattered most.

AnnieAnnie was on her way from the pound on the morning of 3rd July 2016. Her freedom ride to us in Cornwall..... a life of love and fun, things she has never known in her life. Annie died in the pound the night before collection, alone in her kennel. She was found in the morning when her freedom ride chauffeur went to collect her..... devastated doesn't come close to how everyone feels about it, ....... RIP Annie... we tried really hard to get you safe...

TonySee this little man, this little man is Tony. Tony had been at LCH for a week. He came from the pound on Sunday, 18 October 2015. He had just finished a course of antibiotics for an inflamed bowel.
On Sunday, 25 October 2015, Tony developed a limp. So on Monday, 26 October 2015, we took him to the vets for a check up and x-ray. The reason for his limp? Well it's quite simple really....a massive tumour!! One so big that it stopped his bowel and bladder working and was pressing on his pelvis. We had to say goodbye to this beautiful precious 6 year old soul. He was dumped because he was sick. Well, his owners don't need to worry any more as Tony is sick no longer. Us on the other hand.......are broken.....again!! |
